Tea & Cup Handbuilding

Work by Yujin Kang

Build a strong foundation in handbuilding in this beginner-friendly Tea & Cup workshop. Participants will learn essential techniques such as pinching and slab building to create functional forms like cups and small vessels, along with an introduction to surface decoration.

This one-off workshop offers a relaxed, sensory experience combining clay, culture, and craft. While you build, you’ll enjoy tea sourced from local Chinatown shops, adding a thoughtful and immersive element to the session.

The class will begin with a 20-minute instructor demonstration covering pinch pot and slab-building techniques. From there, participants will have time to explore, experiment, and create their own pieces with guidance throughout. This workshop is ideal for beginners but welcomes participants of all levels. Those new to clay will receive clear, step-by-step guidance, while more experienced makers are encouraged to refine their skills and experiment with form.

Up to two finished pieces are included and will be glazed and fired by the studio; additional pieces may be kept for an extra fee. Finished work will be ready for pickup in 3–4 weeks.
