Youth Afterschool Program
Our Youth Afterschool Program is designed to foster creative expression in youth through ceramics. It's a fun environment for kids or teens who want to learn a new skill or simply have a creative outlet, along with the many other benefits ceramics offers, from building focus, creativity, and patience to fine motor development. Over 10 weeks, students will build hands-on skills while exploring the world of clay.
Wheel Throwing (Ages 11–14)
Students will learn the fundamentals of throwing on the pottery wheel — centering clay, pulling walls, and shaping their own bowls, cups, and other fundamental forms. Students will also learn the basics of handbuilding: pinching, coiling, and slab building. We encourage teens to come ready with an idea or project in mind, and with guidance from our instructor, will bring their vision to life.
Handbuilding (Ages 8–11)
Students will explore handbuilding techniques — pinch pots, coil building, and slab building — while learning about texture, form, and glazing. We'll be exploring lidded jars, animals, functional forms, and various sculptural or nonfunctional pieces students are inspired by.
